Re: General Discussion
The Confederate flag is hardly what I'd call a major source of argument, Canis.
If you want to see a real argument where I live, grab two football fans that are really passionate about different teams, and throw them into a room together. You would not believe how bad it gets. Murders happen over major games here. I'm not even being sarcastic about this. It's not just people murdering the fans of an opposing team. Say the team you supported lost, if they see another fan that isn't as upset about the loss, they might kill them over it.

Re: General Discussion
Oh? Because everyone I've talked to from the Deep South with the exception of you was all about that southern pride, the south will rise again, and flying the Confederate flag. And if you questioned it...well they would get into it with you.
The problem with football is I give precious few ****s about it so I wouldn't want to argue it

Well hopefully people get their sheets in soon. I gotta wonder sometimes how it takes people so long to do a character sheet. Especially if they are still on break.
Anyway, I hope people send me some faction sheets soon. The Astrum are so lonely there in the folder

School starts back up on Monday. Also, I'm going to start making hand-molded planters for sale to make a little extra money. Working on those, too.

The American Robin's Latin name is "Turdus Migratorius."

As a zoology nerd allow me to harass you:
The species name should not be capitalized, and the whole name should be italicized!
There, I'm done.

You completely ignored the ridiculousness of the American Robin's Latin name.

I thought you'd made it up. Turns out you weren't kidding xD

Anyway, Valnarian this is your first (silly) warning. Harassment is not tolerated on this forum xD

Also Val are you done with that civ sheet yet? I need someone to invade....

I'll try to work some more on it today, but I can't make any promises. At the earliest, I'll (hopefully) be able to complete it by the end of the week.
Incidentally, I decided to investigate the American Robin's scientific name. The word Turdus is the Latin word for "thrush", and migratorius comes from another Latin word, migrare, which means "to go." I hope you are all unduly impressed.

That's fine. Just wondering how things were coming along

Wikipedia and Google Translate make it too easy for me to be impressed by a simple translation from Latin. Now if you want to conduct an analysis of something be my guest....

Re: General Discussion
You should see how people keep changing the scientific names of plants. Some of them aren't even Latin, sometimes the species name comes from a mash-up of someone's first and last name.
Re: General Discussion
One more reason for me to like physics and materials science more than biology. None of that nonsense xD

Re: General Discussion
Well, scientific names are relatively easy compared to the chemical-level stuff, plus, I remember things because I collect unique plants and the species description is important to me.
At the moment I'm taking an engineering materials course. So far, enjoyable, though the teacher said the information flow was comparable to getting hit by a fire hose, or getting water-boarded. That was the first time I saw someone compare their own class to torture.

Re: General Discussion
Oh if you are taking materials science and need any help, hit me up (or make a thread in the science board or whatever) and I'll be happy to help
Anyways, I'm especially glad I don't have to take organic chemistry. General chemistry was bad enough

Hey... I disappeared again!
And I like taxonomy, and spent a lot of hours just surfing Wikipedia and places 'cause I liked prehistory. Got a lot of useless facts memorized now - like how to spell Micropachycephalosaurus.

Re: General Discussion
Me and Sar share a love of dinosaurs. Although I'm probably a bit rusty on them now. Speaking of prehistory, I recommend visiting YouTube and looking up some videos on the natural history of the Earth. It's really cool to see how things went in a visual format.
Wikipedia is a wonderful place where I like to read...
Otherwise I really like materials science, physics, geology (somewhat), astronomy, and technology/engineering.
Not as much of a biology or chemistry fan, but I can talk to them a little bit.

Re: General Discussion
My primary interests are generally plants (No surprise there), but there is also a strong interest in art, specifically clay or pottery, and how an effect is achieved.
One of my main questions right now, how do I produce rainbow iridescence using paint? We have reflective, mother-of-pearl paint that can make something look like a seashell, silver metal, or pewter depending on what color you mix it with or go over while painting. Any color other than black will usually lighten, and become sparkly in appearance. This isn't rainbow iridescence, though, and I don't see any spray-paint that does something like this. Someone figured out how to do it in the case of carnival glass, but why not clay or paint?

Re: General Discussion
Unsure, but if the paint you described doesn't do it, I'm not sure what will. Could you definite rainbow irridescence a bit more?

Re: General Discussion
Most paints can be mixed with a type of substance that makes them highly reflective like hummingbird feathers. It makes the paint look shiny and metallic. The problem, though, is that this reflective medium only makes the paints reflect back the color they are mixed with. Shiny, metallic effects are not the same as the iridescence I'm looking for.
What I'm looking for is some sort of substance or film that, once applied, changes the color reflected based on the angle of light or perspective. Basically, can I paint something a color, and then go over it with some sort of film so that I'm getting the iridescent effect without altering the color underneath or making the whole thing sparkly?
There's a material called Carnival Glass that demonstrates the effect I'm looking for, but I'm not sure if any technique exists for paints, specifically.

I've always loved dinosaurs and animals, and I am always interested in taxonomy.
@Prussian How interesting that Micropachycephalosaurus used to be considered a pachycephalosaur, but is now a ceratopsian.

Ah, well I've got no idea, unless perhaps you can find a clearcoat of some sort.
